Tackling the Impossible: Installing a 350-Pound Cast Iron Tub in an Attic Bathroom
Big Tub Installation
At Kirkland and Shaw Plumbing & Heating, we love a good challenge—and our recent project in Cambridge, MA, was one for the books!
The Challenge: A Tub Too Big for the Attic?
Our client reached out with a unique request: replacing their old 1992 Jacuzzi with a stunning, 350-pound cast iron Kohler tub. The catch? The bathroom was in the attic, accessible only by a tight, narrow staircase. Several contractors had already turned down the job, worried about the logistics and the risk of property damage.

Going the Extra Mile
Paul, our owner, personally inspected the site. He squeezed through tight knee spaces and carefully assessed every detail to ensure we could deliver the results the client wanted—without compromising their home.
Our crew prepared meticulously, protecting walls, floors, and railings. With teamwork, patience, and a lot of muscle, we navigated the heavy tub up the staircase and into its new home.
The Results: A Beautiful, Updated Bathroom
The new Kohler tub is now the centerpiece of a charming, older bathroom. It looks fantastic and blends seamlessly with the existing decor. Most importantly, our client is thrilled with the transformation.
Here’s what they had to say in their recent Google review:
“Paul, the owner, impressed us from the start. He thoroughly inspected the old setup, even crawling through tight knee space to assess everything. He and his crew handled the difficult task with care and professionalism.
The new Kohler tub looks fantastic and blends beautifully with our older, but still charming, bathroom. We absolutely love the updated space.
Highly recommend Paul and his team for their skill, dedication, and thoughtful work.”
