How an Irrigation Meter Can Help You Save on Water Costs

If your lush lawn and amazing gardens are the envy of the neighborhood, you understand the commitment it takes to maintain this prize-winning landscaping. Or maybe you just bought your dream car, and all your free time is spent washing and polishing until your pride and joy gleams. And of course, we all spend time scrubbing the thick layer of pollen off our outdoor furniture and patios so that we can actually enjoy them.

All this watering can add up, and many homes have just one water meter that serves both the home's plumbing and outdoor watering needs. The Town of Lexington allows residents to request a second water meter, specifically for outdoor watering, also known as an irrigation meter.

Why is this important? Because the water used to sustain your vibrant landscape, protect your pride and joy, and provide pleasant leisure time doesn't need to be processed the same way your indoor plumbing does. The water you use outdoors doesn't go back into the sewer system to be treated, so why should you pay for it?

The Town of Lexington encourages you to take advantage of their irrigation meters so that your outdoor water usage can be billed at the water rate, saving you money in the long run. For additional information, you can visit the town's website at https://www.lexingtonma.gov/564/Water-Sewer. To date, more than 3,500 irrigation meters have been installed in Lexington.
