Proper usage of your garbage disposal will extend the life of your disposal.  Here a some key tips.

  1. Before turning on the disposal run cool water down the drain. Using cool water will keep the fat in some foods solid allowing move through your disposal and pipes.
  2. Turn on your disposal before adding food.
  3. Gradually and slowly add garbage into the disposal.  
  4. Turn off the disposal but keep the water running to flush the disposal and drain pipes.
